The first answers have already emerged. In my work, I like to look at reports to find specific data. Thus, for example, the CSO report from June shows a clear weakening in employment. The number of people in work, compared to April, fell by 1.4% and stood at 6173.9 thousand. Moreover The „ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey” report clearly indicates that companies' recruitment plans have deteriorated significantly. From July to September, only 6% Polish employers (i.e. the same as in the first quarter of this year, even before the pandemic outbreak), wants to increase employment, a 72% does not foresee changes.Meanwhile, the latest report from Grant Thorton and Element shows a clear recovery in the labour market in June. Employers posted only 16.3% fewer vacancies than in the same period a year ago, this was up from 26.1% in May.* So we are heading for better, finally. It is interesting to see how these figures change from month to month. I have similar observations, I see a difference in the dynamics of the labour market, you can see that we are slowly recovering.

Employer or employee market?

I know that such juxtapositions, for the moment, may worry some people. Talking to candidates myself on a daily basis I encounter different opinions, there are concerns but there is also an openness to new proposals. Candidates ask why change if I have a job? Or they are afraid to change because “who knows what it will be like”. Well, that's exactly what I don't think anyone knows. But in my opinion, it's still worth considering a job offer if it comes to us, because it's just a signal that we're dealing with a strong brand that is doing well in times of crisis.Nowadays, many candidates are precisely looking for stability and job security. This is confirmed by a survey conducted by the Pracuj.pl portal at the end of April - as many as 77% respondents are ready to accept an offer from a new employer. Of these, 58% would accept a job offer if it guaranteed stable and secure employment. This is a significant increase in the importance of this issue in relation to Pracuj.pl's research from recent years. If we do not have such certainty with our current employer, I advise us to make a decision about a change. But let's prepare for it and do everything from our side to go through the process relatively stress-free.I always tell candidates that recruitment is a project for which you need to prepare properly. You need to analyse the data, choose the tools and think about the search strategy. I am happy to help candidates with such activities, I like to suggest what to look out for. These are seemingly obvious things, but I have found many times that active people need such support.

    Where to start?

Starting, of course, with a CV. In my opinion, everyone, without exception, passive or active professional, should have a reasonably up-to-date CV prepared. I like to use CV creators (e.g. canva.com, interviewme.pl), which will do all the graphic work for us. We give the text and the generator prepares a graphically interesting document. You don't need any graphic skills, everything happens automatically.Sometimes candidates overwhelm me with the detail in their CVs. I've seen all sorts of CVs, from ones that are a few pages long to ones that include job titles. I then get the feeling that the candidate hasn't thought through what they wanted to tell me about their experience. It is better to approach each offer individually and develop the CV in such a way that it gives a lot of arguments for our candidature in a given recruitment. And if the candidate has many years of experience, I would hint that it is also worth having a separate document that includes the most important projects and achievements.

    Social media, recommendations, announcements

These days, just as important as the CV is our online image. These days, a CV alone is no longer enough. Social media rule now, in business and in recruitment too.Every recruiter will confirm that our best online business card is our profile on LinkedIn. In my opinion, it's worth it to maintain a professional image, as many recruiters are looking there for information about a candidate before inviting them to join. Believe me, thoughtful action in this area pays off, even more so now that we are all more online than “in real life”.Of course, the more traditional form of searching, i.e. applications for job adverts, still works too. And don't forget the employment agencies and headhunters operating in our specialisms. It is worth keeping in touch with them, as they often have access to confidential projects that are not published online. It is also important to keep an eye on the career pages of the companies we have on our professional “target”. Each of us probably has a list of top 5 companies where we would like to work. Use your contacts in the industry, if you can ask for referrals. Many times in my professional career I have been convinced of the validity of the saying that “the world is small”. So let's use business recommendations, also in the case of the “new job” project. If you need inspiration, support you will definitely find it now. Nowadays there are a lot of job search support initiatives, created from the bottom up by recruiters, business people show that it is always worth helping. Read more about it at https://dookolapracy.pl/znajdz-prace-podczas-pandemii/

    Now what?

With this package in place, we can set off on our search. Will it be easy? At present, certainly not. But, have they ever been? Is it worth it? I think so. I see an upturn in the labour market, the offers are coming in and, although we are recovering, we are still a long way from the situation before the pandemic. However, these signals from employers, show that there is still a shortage of specific competences and, after a temporary freeze, employers have gone “on the hunt” again. If you are considering a career change, there are certainly specific reasons behind it. All I can tell you is that there will never be a perfect time for a change. There will always be a “but“. However, why get tired and stand still? If there is the right package of competences and motivation to undertake the search, such actions will bring results.Nowadays, you need to be creative and strategic in your thinking, not only in the job, but also in the search phase. *The data comes from Grant Thornton's „Labour Market in COVID-19” report, which, together with report partner Element, analysed job listing statistics from 50 portals - including Pracuj.pl and OLX.pl.

About the author of the entry

Magdalena Fila - Dzioba

Talent Aquisition Expert at Allegro

Recruitment expert with many years of experience in recruitment projects for specialist and managerial positions for internal purchasing and logistics departments as well as the TSL industry.
