The concept of negotiation has undergone a process of evolution. Initially and for a long time, negotiation was associated with diplomacy or politics. Today, no company could do without negotiation and it is one of the areas in which competence development resources are invested.

The negotiation process is an extremely complex process. It is not only about acquired skills, but also about the personal predisposition of the negotiator. Therefore, it requires constant expansion of knowledge and consolidation of acquired competences. Reaching the level of negotiation expert is a long and demanding process. But, once this ceiling is reached, the gains can be tangible.

Negotiation expert - how do you get to that level?

Negotiation is a specific and particular form of communication. Although it is based on conversation, it is characterised by self-interest on both sides. Anyone entering into a negotiation starts the conversation with a preconceived goal that they want to achieve at the end. That is why it is important to be well prepared for business negotiations or not to negotiate at all. A spontaneous negotiation may end in failure, especially if there is an unprepared team involved.

Moving up the ladder negotiating competence should be staggered, and the training selected should be appropriate to the negotiator's level of knowledge and experience. Expert level in negotiations is the level to which seasoned negotiators enter.

Undoubtedly, however, even after achieving certificate of negotiation expert, one should not rest on one's laurels and stop constantly improving one's competence. Why? Because negotiation is a very human process - Human to Human, and every person is different and we can always be surprised by behaviour, by a style we did not expect. By the same token, regularly updating our knowledge and information on how to conduct negotiation talks will allow us to properly use the knowledge we have already acquired and maintain our own skills.
