We have already said that what a circular economy is and what characterises it, as well as on the role of secondary resources in the whole process. We also touched on the impact of adopting a closed-loop strategy within companies' own structures.

This time we will show what the closed-loop economy looks like in Poland.

Closed loop economy in Poland

The circular economy has many benefits not only for the environment. For many entrepreneurs, it is materials and energy that represent the greatest costs. The European Commission has shown that by introducing a circular economy, implementing eco-design and leaving raw materials in circulation as long as possible and applying recycling principles, it is possible to reduce costs by up to 8% of annual turnover.

As of 2018, European Union countries have top-down waste minimisation targets. Poland is also affected by these guidelines. They include recycling 65% of all waste by 2025, and by 70% by 2030. Further, the guidelines cover individual fractions: paper recycling 75% by 2025, and 85% by 2030, plastic recycling 50% by 2025 and 55% by 2030.

In order to help entrepreneurs in the process of moving from a linear to a circular economy, a document entitled 'The Circular Economy' has been produced. „Roadmap for the transition to a circular economy”.”. On its basis, companies have the opportunity to set the direction of change and restructure the areas that require it. This is the first step towards responsible development, which is the main premise of the circular economy. The EU, meanwhile, provides for funding to support the initiative, and the Ministry of Investment and Development is encouraging its use.

In Poland, the circular economy is still in its infancy and few entrepreneurs have efficiently implemented the changes intended to lead to the elimination of the linear economy. The main industries where changes can be observed are energy-producing companies.

Although preparing to abandon the linear economy in favour of the circular economy can be lengthy, labour-intensive, time-consuming and costly on a one-off basis, it brings a number of benefits. It is therefore worth taking advantage of business training and the expertise of the experts who help to carry out this process, for example in cooperation with suppliers.
