„Super-smooth” organisation thanks to Business Process Mining, is this surely the distant future?

Imagine a company that, with the technology it has, is able to control itself how it carries out its processes and even automatically correct its actions. It does not need expensive audits or super-complex algorithms to do this. It can simply identify its problems, make the right diagnosis and respond quickly. Such a company does not yet exist, but such a technology does! Allow us to introduce „Business Process Mining”.

Processes form organisations

It is said that the World is one big process or, if you prefer, a collection of intertwined processes. To understand it, we need to get to the most detailed information possible. Similarly, every business is essentially a collection of core processes within an organisation. These processes form the fundamental basis of the company and are the basic environment for the execution of all business activities (operations). Early business processes were relatively simple and were often performed manually. Over time, however, advances in technology have moved many activities into information systems. Core business processes have become complex sequences of activities, too complex and of such a large scale that managing them manually is no longer feasible in practice. This is why all opinion leaders, such as Gartner and Everest Group, agree on the following.

how irregularities and anomalies in business processes are dealt with will be part of the company's strategy of the future and a source of its competitive advantage.

Without the application of Process Exploration, organisations will run a high risk of their processes becoming more costly, less efficient in relation to their competitors and more difficult to adapt to rapidly changing external conditions (competition, changes in law and the business environment, new technologies, etc.).

Process analytics past and present

Improving the performance of business processes is, of course, not a new idea. But in modern business, the process environment has reached a level of complexity that is beyond the reach of traditional tools. What we have had at our disposal so far is:

  • manual data collection, mainly through interviews
  • process mapping software, i.e. drawing all sorts of flowcharts that were supposed to reflect as closely as possible how we operate (they were generally far from this and quickly became obsolete)
  • process modelling tools to conduct a „what if” analysis - they could perhaps be effective if they were not based on a pre-drawn process map, which in turn is based on the subjective of the part of the organisation we happen to have interviewed.
Business Process Mining

Business Process Mining is fully automated!

This area makes use of modern technologies such as: robotisation, artificial intelligence, analytics. BPM is therefore not just a method of dealing with complexity and inefficiency, which most companies simply accept as an inevitable cost of operation. The real value of Business Process Mining, lies in the ability to continuously linking together the most retail activities at an operational level with business results that are understood by management. I will conclude with the words of Hans Rosling, who dedicated his life to popularising the approach to analysis through retail data and facts:

„We will never understand the world around us without numbers, just as we will never understand it using numbers alone. We need to be able to interpret the life behind the numbers.”

From EVENEUM:Technology based on process mining is a relatively new field, but how necessary it is to improve operational performance in the purchasing area. We are familiar with those situations where service providers complain about payment delays caused by the lengthy invoice decree process at the customer. On the other hand, buyers complain to internal business partners that they get invoices for approval after they have already made a purchase, without any order, without any mode. Can BPM help to identify holes in the purchasing process and improve it permanently?” - wonders Monika Bis and will probably ask this question during the webinar to Marta Raczkowska from Crestt Take a look at the webinar on 01 July, we will present what Business Process Minnig has to offer in the context of purchasing processes. With material from Celonis, we will discuss life examples alone.
